EVALUATION QUESTION 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A media institution is an organisation and company that produces and/or distibutes media productions, this varies from anything such as movies and tv programmes, to the radio and even the internet
With my media product being a smaller thriller, the type of distribution company I would need would need to be of a smaller and lower scale. The reason for this is because the company would have a lower budget if my thriller was made into a full film.  In some cases, low budgetting distribution companies can produce high grossing films, with being produced for less than £500k and then grossing over one million worldwide, this shows that having a low budget distribution company does not effect the quality of the film, and is just needed as my thriller is not a high end block buster. Between January 2008 and August 2014, there were 1,419 films made in the UK budgeted under £1 million, with only 7 of them grossing over £1 millions in cinemas worldwide. As well as this, the company should be based in the UK, preferably London as London is the home to over 50% of the UK's film companies.

A good distribution company that would be ideal for my thriller is netflix, the online streaming site has expanded significantly in the last 5 years and has become increasingly popular, people all over the world are able to access the site at a small monthly rate. Netflix has an income of over £200 million pound in the UK alone and global profits of £260+ million, this makes the company a great success and a liable distribution company

Arrow Films is also another distribution company that is suitable for my thriller as it is a low budget company that seems to distribute many thrillers. Arrow's global reputation as one of the finest labels in the world has happened through its consistent high quality products. This would boost my thrillers views and essentially produce a high number of people seeing the film.
